Data governance & quality

Ownership, cataloging, quality rules and access controls that make data trustworthy and compliant.

Overview

Data governance works when it helps people find, understand and trust data. It fails when it becomes a committee that produces documents nobody reads. We design governance that is practical and embedded in how data is created and used.

We start by defining ownership: who is accountable for key data domains and critical data elements, and who decides when definitions conflict. We then implement a data catalog with a business glossary and lineage, quality rules applied at the source as well as downstream, and access policies that balance openness with privacy and regulatory requirements such as GDPR and HIPAA.

Governance is prioritized by business impact, starting with the data behind the most important reports, regulatory submissions and AI use cases. Quality is measured and published through scorecards, and issues are routed to the owners who can fix them. Over time, governance becomes part of normal delivery rather than a separate overhead.

What you receive

  1. 01Data governance operating model with roles and decision rights
  2. 02Business glossary and critical data element definitions
  3. 03Data catalog and lineage for priority domains
  4. 04Data quality rules, scorecards and issue workflows
  5. 05Access policies and data classification aligned to regulatory requirements

Technologies we work with

  • Microsoft Purview

  • Monte Carlo
  • dbt tests

We are technology-agnostic: tools are chosen to fit your requirements and existing investments.

Questions we often hear

Where should data governance start?

With the data that matters most: the metrics in executive reporting, regulatory submissions and priority AI use cases. Starting narrow lets you show value quickly and build momentum.

Does governance cover unstructured data for AI?

It should. Documents, emails and transcripts used by generative AI need the same cataloging, classification, access control and version tracking as structured data.
